Urban stilllife

Richmond is a diverse cramped neighbourhood in Melbourne. Home to luxury car showrooms, small terrace houses, narrow lanes and furniture shops it also has several orthodox churches. As I drove home through Burnley Street this week my eye caught some photos in a ground floor apartment window. Being a sucker for these sorts of things I pulled over and walked across the street.

It was a Coptic place of worship in a typical red brick apartment building. After a few shots of the icons on display I thought I’d venture around the side of the building to see if there was more. Lo and behold I was presented with this ready made still life. A single plastic rose surrounded by revered elders, the Saviour and a plastic mini crucifix was perfect and qualified as Friday Feature for this week!
